JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Summary: Under administrative direction, provides leadership in the use and administration of databases; responsible for defining, implementing, protecting and maintaining complex relational and other databases.
CHARACTERISTIC JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
May include any and/or all of the following:
- Instructs and consults with systems personnel relating to the integration of databases to meet the needs of new applications or expanding existing ones; provides advice to management concerning the databases used and what information is available; provides mentoring and instructional support for individuals moving to database administration positions.
- Participates to help envision future directions and goals; makes effective and efficient use of resources; sets goals for services and operations.
- Applies database patches and upgrades in Production environments.
- Participate in disaster recovery and high availability testing procedures.
- Monitors system generation, maintenance, and tuning of database software.
- Maintains University data standards document, including common data definitions; interacts with data stewards to ensure standards conformance and improve data integrity across all systems.
- Gathers and analyzes information on databases currently installed to locate and correct possible inefficiencies; maintains standards for using databases and database management facilities; ensures adequate documentation of database and database usage is available.
- Maintains common data definitions for database users in order to eliminate data redundancy and to improve data integrity; researches and develops techniques, procedures and tools for more efficient use of resources in the database environment.
- Works with the Information Security Officer to assure the provision of appropriate levels of security to database applications, which contain confidential and/or sensitive information.
- Engages in a planned program of professional development, coordinated with divisional goals and responsibilities; maintains continual growth in a professional skills and knowledge essential to the position.
- Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
- Extensive knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques used in administering complex databases using Cache and SQL
- Experience with the implementation and management of relational databases in a clustered environment and with site failover preferred.

- Experience in EPIC environment preferred
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and experience equivalent to:
Bachelor’s degree, supplemented with three (3) years of related experience with increasingly complex technical leadership and management responsibilities in an information technology environment.
