Essential Functions

The project manager is responsible for understanding business requirements and for managing the development and implementation of a technical solution for the business unit's presence on the internet. These tasks include utilizing expertise with various web infrastructure and software platforms; working with clients to develop site navigation and wireframes; providing guidance and direction to graphic designers; and managing technical resources through development, testing, and implementation. Under general supervision, the individual in this position will undertake complex projects requiring specialized technical knowledge and will manage a small technical team.

Primary Duties:

-Perform analysis of business practices and prepare requirements, design, technical specifications, and documentation for new applications, application enhancements, and bug fixes.

-Easily recognize system deficiencies and implement effective solutions.

-Evaluate vendor software.

-Facilitate team and client meetings. Deliver informative, well-organized presentations. Understand how to communicate difficult/sensitive information tactfully.

-Create and execute project work plans, revising as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements.

-Cultivate and foster superior customer service relationships, including review of project priorities with key users.

-In collaboration with senior management and stakeholders, define project scope, goals, and deliverables that support business goals.
-Develop full-scale project plans and associated communication documents. Track project milestones and deliverables.

-Estimate the resources and participants needed to achieve project goals.

-Identify and manage project dependencies and critical path tasks.
-Determine the frequency and content of status reports from the project team, analyze results, and troubleshoot problem areas.

-Determine and assess need for additional staff and/or consultants. Recruit appropriately if necessary during project cycle.
-Identify and resolve issues and conflicts within the project team.

-Manage software vendors and external service providers.

-Coordinate application support to ensure client service level agreements are met. Provide off-hours support. Consistently deliver high-quality services to clients.

-Ensure adherence to departmental standards. Act as a source of direction, training, and guidance for other staff members.

-Supervise staff: Set expectations, monitor progress, and provide formal and informal feedback. Provide guidance for professional development.

-Create and execute project work plans and revise as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements.

-Manage resources within budget and project schedule.

-Conduct project milestone reviews.


Required Qualifications

Undergraduate degree, current enrollment in IT degree program, or equivalent experience. Demonstrated aptitude to quickly and effectively adapt to technologies outside of current base of knowledge. Significant experience with use and management of business applications in client/server or web-based environments.

Excellent organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to work with only general supervision, to learn quickly, to adapt to new circumstances, to work extra hours and recognize the need to do so, and to adjust to change and demands on time.

Experience managing website development projects with a web content management system. Knowledge of and experience with management of projects using various web development languages, graphics packages, and content management solutions (e.g., HTML, CSS, JavaScript, ASP, ASP.NET, PHP, XML/XSL, Java, Dreamweaver, SharePoint, Photoshop, etc.) Thorough understanding of browser-specific compatibility issues. Significant knowledge of website interfaces and an understanding of the benefits of various functional and technical design methodologies.


Preferred Qualifications

Undergraduate or graduate/professional degree preferred. Prior experience in a higher education technology environment and background in business information systems at the management or business analyst level.
