Systems Engineer II
 
 

Essential Functions

 

Under moderate supervision, the individual in this position is responsible for the administration and support of computer systems. He/she resolves moderately complex operations issues, including installations, setups, error messages, system status, and downtime procedures. Additionally, he/she ensures user satisfaction by providing preventative maintenance and by troubleshooting and quickly resolving problems.

Primary duties and responsibilities:

-Install, configure, and administer departmental computer hardware and software.

-Analyze system requirements and existing business processes.

-Respond to requests for diagnosis of interrupted and inefficient processes.

-Analyze and take corrective action regarding computer hardware and software in order to resolve technical and schedule issues.

-Initiate corrective action to stay on schedule.

-Investigate options for new or improved technology through literature searches and other research.

-Participate in project planning.

Required Qualifications

Undergraduate degree, current enrollment in IT degree program, or equivalent experience. Experience as SQL server administrator, IIS administrator, and system administrator. Experience with scripting (VB, PERL, etc.), operating system software and network protocols, and Microsoft Windows. Ability to adjust to change and demands on time, to adjust scheduled time, to work with minimal supervision, to learn quickly, and to adapt to new circumstances. Strong organizational skills and excellent language and people skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Undergraduate degree and prior experience in a higher education technology environment preferred.
